Philadelphia Eagles or not, Minkah Fitzpatrick could land in NFC East
Minkah Fitzpatrick has been seeking a trade, and realistically he could end up with the Philadelphia Eagles or elsewhere in the NFC East one way or another.
The Miami Dolphins are struggling in 2019 as expected. It’s only been one week since the season kicked off, but many within the locker room are already fed up with the way things are going. That includes 2018 first-round pick, Minkah Fitzpatrick.
Last week, there were rumors that multiple players contacted their agents to demand a trade following the blowout loss against the Baltimore Ravens. Whether it’s true or not that multiple players actually did request trades, it has been confirmed by various sources that Fitzpatrick is surely one of them as he was granted permission by the team to seek other options.
To no surprise, the Philadelphia Eagles were linked to the versatile defensive back. As there aren’t many positions the Eagles currently need, help could be wanted in the secondary. However, if the Eagles cannot land the second-year defensive back, somebody else in the NFC East might.
Tons of interest within the division?
Like the Miami Dolphins, the New York Giants defense got picked apart by the Dallas Cowboys last week. We already knew that New York was going to struggle this year, but last week’s issues were beyond evident. They could use some help in their secondary, and Fitzpatrick is affordable.
NJ Advanced Media’s Matt Lombardo recently mentioned that the rumored price tag for Fitzpatrick is a “premium that Gettleman and the Giants must give strong consideration to paying.” As the Giants have a significant need for a cornerback, Fitzpatrick becomes the best available.
So the Giants COULD be interested. However, the Cowboys ARE interested. According to the Executive Vice President himself, Stephen Jones, Dallas is making calls. He simply replied with “yeah,” when asked if the Cowboys have reached out to Miami recently.
Right now, there haven’t been any hard evidence on which teams are truly in the mix for Fitzpatrick. But looking around the NFC East, at least three out of the four teams are most likely making calls to Miami to attempt to make a deal for the young star.
