Philadelphia Eagles veteran wideout DeSean Jackson left with no return on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.

Last week, the homecoming of DeSean Jackson was nothing short of remarkable. As he threw on his No. 10 Philadelphia Eagles jersey for the first time since the 2013 season, Jackson reeled in not one, but two, 50-plus yard touchdowns against the Washington Redskins.

Jackson was the missing piece to the puzzle for the Eagles as he gave Eagles’ quarterback Carson Wentz a deep threat like he’s never had before. Bringing Jackson back to Philly was a no-brainer for the Eagles. But there was a single con to the move, which was going to bit them in the back at some point during the 2019 NFL Season.

2013 was the last year DeSean Jackson managed to stay healthy for an entire season. For the next five years, Jackson would miss time due to lower-body injuries that were typically non-contact. Issues with hamstrings, groin, calf, etc.

It was bound to affect the Eagles at some point during the 2019 season; we just didn’t know when. Unfortunately, it happened rather quickly. On Sunday, the Eagles had Jackson for a few plays on offense against the Atlanta Falcons. Soon, he would disappear, though.

Apparently, Jackson suffered a pulled groin and spent the rest of the game stretching and watching from the sideline. Meanwhile, the Eagles offense remained hardly productive in the first half. As they trotted out a rookie and a past roster hopeful to catch passes from Wentz, the entire offense seemed out of sync.

It’s not a promising sight seeing Jackson miss a game already, but the reality is that his injury concerns are nothing new. Rather, they are just something we forgot about. In his last 81 games, dating back to 2014 since he left the Eagles, Jackson has only been able to play in 67 total.

It’s unclear if his groin injury will carry on over to the third week and beyond — or if the Eagles were just playing it safe and saving his long-term health.

Regardless of the situation, this could be an issue that could affect the Eagles all season long as these types of injuries are considered ‘nagging.’ In other words, they fail to go away. Soon, we’ll see the timetable. But for now, the Eagles injury situation looks like last seasons, except for now it’s hitting the offense hard.
