Philadelphia Eagles fans shockingly supportive of Nelson Agholor
Philadelphia Eagles wideout Nelson Agholor was buzzing for all of the wrong reasons on Sunday night.
Look how far we’ve come, Philadelphia Eagles fans. Back in the Chip Kelly days, and earlier times of Doug Pederson’s coaching era, the fan base was as disgruntled as it gets. It seems as though the 2017 Super Bowl win did this fan base some wonders.
Now, don’t get it confused. There is still a lot, and I mean, A LOT of disgruntled fans out there calling it quits on the season after a tough week two loss. But for the most part, Eagles fans have been surprisingly supportive of their team through tough times and struggles.
It was unbelievable how many reacted to the playoff loss in New Orleans last season. When that pass from Nick Foles bounced off Alshon Jeffery’s hands and into the Saints defender to put an end to the Eagles year, we expected the city to go up in flames.
That wasn’t the reaction, though. Support came flying in, and Jeffery apologized to the city of Philadelphia for his mistake. Jeffery has been on good terms ever since, but now the focus shifts to a more recent dropped pass, which cost the Eagles big time.
On Sunday Night Football against the Atlanta Falcons, the Eagles came up short falling to 1-1 on the year. The game felt out of reach, but once again, the Eagles began to formulate a comeback. With the lead, Philly’s defense came up short on a fourth-down conversion, which Falcons’ wideout Julio Jones took it to the house to steal it back.
Eagles’ quarterback Carson Wentz was ready to counter that quickly with a dime to an open Nelson Agholor, but the slot receiver couldn’t hang onto it. He claims the lights were in his eyes, but he also refused to make excuses. Regardless though, he doesn’t get that catch back. The go-ahead touchdown was there for the taking, but Agholor failed to reel it in.
What does Philly think about the drop?
Back in 2015-2016, Nelson Agholor was public enemy No. 1 in the eyes of Philly fans. The former first-round pick was expected to be the next great receiver in midnight green, but the famous old saying “this guy couldn’t catch a cold!” Applied to Agholor’s start with the Birds.
At one point in 2016, fans put together a fundraiser online to try and raise money to help cover Agholor’s cap hit so the Eagles could basically cut him for free. That’s just how ridiculous Philly fans could get. However, after the Super Bowl victory, the city let up.
Yes, there were still fans who lost their minds and called for Agholor’s head — but after going through his Twitter mentions, we were shocked to find out that many Eagles fans were pretty supportive of the guy. Here are a few reactions to his game.
