Alshon Jeffery and DeSean Jackson are both out for multiple weeks. Could it finally be Greg Ward’s time with the Philadelphia Eagles?

It almost doesn’t seem fair. It would be nice to see Doug Pederson get 16 games with a healthy Philadelphia Eagles team. Then, we could finally evaluate him fairly. Then, we could finally see what he could do with his best team for a full season. Then, we could shout to the hills about how great he is. Instead, we’re talking about Greg Ward.

That’s not a knock on Ward. It just seems like, at some point, the Eagles have to get healthy, but again, the story is that they aren’t healthy. If it isn’t one thing, it’s another.

Joe Ostman gets hurt before the season begins. Dallas Goedert gets hurt before the game begins. Before that, last season, we were robbed of the chance to see what Mike Wallace could contribute in an Eagles jersey.

In Week 2 of 2019, the Eagles lost Timmy Jernigan and, possibly, Sidney Jones to a concussion. Corey Clement has a shoulder injury. DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery are both out for a couple of weeks. No one can seem to find a defined role for JJ Arcega-Whiteside and then, there’s Jordan Matthews.

He isn’t even on the team, but he’s a topic of discussion. His readdition to the Eagles roster would bring familiarity and consistency, but what about Ward? Hasn’t he earned his shot?

For Ward, it’s never totally worked in Philly. He’s always been good. He’s shown he can play, but there’s never been enough room to keep him on the active roster. The Eagles have always had guys who were a little better, but now things are different.

The Eagles are short-staffed at wideout. Ward sits on the practice squad, and no one’s bringing his name up. He may be a viable option. It didn’t happen the way we thought, but maybe it’s Greg Ward’s turn. What do ‘The Birds’ have to lose (other than a couple of games)?

He doesn’t have to be ‘the guy’. He only needs to play his role. Necessity is the mother of invention. There may be a nice slot guy under the Eagles’ noses. All they have to do is sniff.
