Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson was recommended surgery
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson will be forced to miss time early on this season.
The Philadelphia Eagles starting wide receiver core is dealing with multiple setbacks as of right now. As Sunday Night Football approached a couple of days ago, there weren’t any reports on injuries regarding the Eagles’ pass catchers.
However, early on in the night, the Eagles ended up with not one, not two, but three critical players injured in their passing game ahead of the matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. First, tight end Dallas Goedert was asked to go back to the locker room to check out his calf as he strained it during warmups.
We didn’t know at the time, but it seems as though Alshon Jeffery and DeSean Jackson were feeling a bit uncomfortable as well. They would both suit up and make it onto the field, but in total, Jeffery and Jackson only played for 15 snaps.
Jeffery accounted for four of those reps as his calf was clearly too tight to run with. Jackson, on the other hand, appeared in eleven snaps before coming out and being sidelined for the remainder of the game. While the only injury we were ever aware of regarding Jackson was his broken thumb, it turns out he’s been dealing with this groin/abdominal injury since before last week’s debut.
The Timetable & Diagnosis
According to ESPN’s Tim McManus, DeSean Jackson is guaranteed to miss the next two games. The timing is unfortunate considering the Eagles play two games in a matter of eleven days. They have a Sunday afternoon game against Detroit this week and a Thursday Night Football matchup against Green Bay the following week.
Two weeks is unfortunate, but it was almost a lot longer. In McManus’ initial report, he mentioned that the Eagles and Jackson sought multiple opinions from doctors during the process of the diagnosis. And one actually suggested getting his issue surgically repaired.
If that were the case, Jackson would be out for at least six weeks. As we know, Jackson opted out of the surgery as he “wants to return to action as soon as possible.” The hope is that Jackson is back by Week 5 and ready to go. It’s unlikely the Eagles will rush him, but they do need him back in the mix as soon as possible.
