The Philadelphia Eagles aren’t close to being healthy but do they have enough in the tank to stop the Detroit Lions from earning their second win?

The Philadelphia Eagles are coming off of a crushing defeat at the hands of the Atlanta Falcons, on Sunday Night Football. The loss was costly as names piled up on the injury report.

A number of the Eagles’ players were sidelined with an injury before the game really got going. By the time the final whistle had blown, around ten players had either been unable to return to action or had been checked with concussions. Even with all of the injuries, the Philadelphia Eagles refused to make excuses for their inability to claim victory over the Falcons. There were a number of plays left on the field.

With the completion of Week 2, Philly will once again have to overcome injuries if they wish to defeat a team that has had their number. ‘The Birds’ will face the Detroit Lions this Sunday. Philly’s been on the wrong end of the score the last time these two teams met.

After dominating the Lions in the ‘Snow Bowl’ in 2013, Philly had their measure taken two years later on Thanksgiving Day. Detroit annihilated Philly. Talk about carving up a bird for dinner. Philly fell by a score of 45-14 on that day.

One year later, Philly hoped to get back on the winning track against Detroit, but they fell short of their goal. A fumble by Ryan Mathews late in the fourth quarter led to a winning field goal by the Lions. There was controversy. The recovering player was out of bounds. By rule, that should have been ruled a dead ball, and possession should have stayed with Philly. That would have resulted in a fourth down.

Detroit would go on to win the game by a score of 24-23.

Fast forward, and it’s now Week 3 of the 2019 season. Philly boasts a record of 1-1, and the Lions are without a loss (even though a tie probably feels like one). The Eagles are looking to hand them their first real loss of the season, and no, a tie won’t suffice.

In order for Philly to accomplish that, they’ll have to overcome the injuries.

As of now, four of their most important players are day to day with injuries, and one is out indefinitely. The Eagles canceled practice on Wednesday. That kind of speaks to the situation they’re in. They’ll need a little luck this week, but as long as they play as a team, that goal is attainable. The players they do have on the field should be more than enough to get the job done. As they would put it, “All they got is all they need”
