Start Em’

Carson Wentz, QB

Philly’s signal-caller, Carson Wentz, did not have his best game last week. He went 25 for 43, put up one score, and had two interceptions. With that said, he was without a number of his go-to targets, whom he lost after the game had started.

We are not excusing his poor performance, but we understand it. Even though ‘Number 11’ struggled, he still made vital plays; One of which was the go-ahead score in the fourth quarter. The ‘Birds had been trailing most of the game before Wentz made his way into the end zone on a one-yard run.

Expect Wentz to bounce back this week. Sure he is still without Jackson, and possibly Jeffery, but he still has quite a few weapons in that explosive offensive arsenal.

Pros: This Lions’ pass defense gives up a ton of passing yards. They have given up an average of 281 yards-per-game.

Cons: They have one of the NFL’s lowest opposing passer ratings, at 74.4.

Nelson Agholor, WR

Eagles’ receiver, Nelson Agholor, had an up and down performance last Sunday night. While he tallied eight receptions for 107 yards and a touchdown, he left several plays on the field. One of which was a crucial drop late in the fourth quarter.

Philly had just relinquished the lead to Atlanta and trailed by four. With 1:58 remaining, Wentz delivered a dime to Agholor on the sideline. Agholor had outrun his defenders, and had he hauled in the catch, he would have most likely walked into the end zone untouched.

While Agholor would end up making a substantial fourth-down catch several plays later, Philly would fall just short of victory.

This week is all about redemption. With Jackson out and Jeffery questionable, Agholor is expected to be the number one receiver. While he had some drops last week, we know what he is capable of. He thrives in big moments and should be able to bounce back this week.

There is only one problem. If Jeffery is inactive, that would mean that Detroit’s all-pro corner, Darius Slay will be matched up with Agholor. They don’t call him ‘Big Play Slay’ for nothing. This will be a huge test for Agholor, but if the Eagles hope to win, he will have to pass it.

Zach Ertz, TE

This is an interesting one. This Lions’ defense does well with their coverage of tight ends. Granted, they have yet to play against a tight end of Zach Ertz’s magnitude.

There is a possibility that Slay’s coverage on Agholor could present some problems for this Philly offense. Wentz may have to rely on his big-bodied pass-catcher Ertz.

So, here’s the deal, this one is a judgment decision. If you are worried about Agholor, start Ertz. If you think Agholor will prevail over what Slay and the rest of Detroit’s pass defense throw at him, sit Ertz.

We would advise you not to start both. It is unlikely both will put up big numbers. Their success will most likely be due to the other being shut down, defensively.

More times than not, we bet on Ertz. So, maybe he has has a big game. Maybe they both have average performances, but we highly doubt they both show out.

Moving on. Who should you sit?
