Will the Philadelphia Eagles allow wide receiver Alshon Jeffery to play against the Detroit Lions?

The Philadelphia Eagles passing game was off to a slow start for the 2019 season. But the slow start did not last the entire game two Sunday’s ago. Eventually, Carson Wentz and the offense exploded as their pass-catchers accounted for four total touchdowns.

Both, DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery were responsible for two apiece. Last week, the Eagles hardly even utilized Jackson and Jeffery no thanks to lower-body injuries. Without them, we saw the Eagles’ offensive struggles from the previous season return.

Can the Eagles offense bounce back this week against the Detroit Lions? That remains to be seen. As we know, DeSean Jackson is out for the next two matchups. Therefore, he won’t even attempt to play against Detroit for Week 3.

Alshon Jeffery, on the other hand, was still on the fence as of Sunday morning. There were a few reports out there stating that Jeffery could be out along with Jackson for the next two weeks — but Doug Pederson refused to confirm that. In fact, he was ‘optimistic’ about Jeffery’s status against Detroit for Week 3.

However, the Eagles gave everybody a reason to believe that Jeffery might not get the green light to go. For starters, he hasn’t practiced a single day this week leading up to the game. Even during walkthroughs, Jeffery was listed as “Did Not Practice.”

On Sunday morning, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Jeffery’s status was in doubt, and he was a ‘long-shot to play’ against the Lions. During pregame warmups, Jeffery was spotted standing and watching alongside DeSean Jackson while others worked out.

Therefore, it looks like there’s a very good chance the Eagles roll without Jeffery for what is basically the second week in a row. The hope is that Carson Wentz can bounce back and work on building a chemistry with his younger wideouts. If he fails to do so, the Eagles could be in for a long eleven-day stretch.
