Carson Wentz played a solid game against the Detroit Lions. There is one stat of his that will make fans angry though — and it’s not what you think.

We’re trying our best to forget last Sunday. As the Philadelphia Eagles took their second loss in a row against a team they should’ve beat in the Detroit Lions, everybody wants to move onto Green Bay — and we will. However, we have to acknowledge what has to change for this week’s game.

The offense was a problem on Sunday — but the defense wasn’t much better. As many like to issue blame towards the secondary, the Eagles’ defensive line pretty much hasn’t done anything to help in four quarters of play this past Sunday.

After further review of the stats from Sunday’s game against Detroit, something abnormal stood out about Carson Wentz’s stats. As the Eagles had a couple of unfortunate turnovers on Sunday, the franchise quarterback had to play some defense. So Wentz ended up showing up on the defensive stat sheet as well with two tackles.

What’s the issue there, you might ask? Well, Wentz’s two tackles ended up being more than four defensive linemen’s tackles accounted for on the stat sheet — combined! Yes, Carson Wentz, the quarterback accounted for more tackles than defensive tackle Hassan Ridgeway, defensive end, Vinny Curry, defensive end, Josh Sweat, and All-Pro defensive tackle, Fletcher Cox.

Point the finger at Ronald Darby, Rasul Douglas, Andrew Sendejo, Nigel Bradham, whatever. It doesn’t matter. At the very least, the secondary is coming up plays. when needed They may not be consistent right now, but they are making plays. The Eagles defensive line on the other hand, has not been, which is something the Eagles aren’t used to seeing.

Having the quarterback collect more tackles than four players combined is never a good sign. That needs to change on Thursday when the Eagles face a very good offense going against Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. With depth lacking in the secondary, the defensive line needs to step up and contribute. Or else the Birds are in for a long night on Thursday Night Football.
