The Giants rookie signal-caller is getting a ton of attention, including NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Do the Philadelphia Eagles have a problem on their hands?

In his first-ever career start, New York Giants rookie signal-caller Daniel Jones lit it up. He threw for 300 yards. He tossed two touchdown passes and added two more with his legs. On Wednesday, we learned that he had earned NFC Player of the Week honors. The immediate question in this. Do the Philadelphia Eagles have a problem on their hands?

You know the Giants think so, but in the words of Lee Corso, ‘not so fast my friend’.

It’s easy to get wrapped up in the offensive explosion from Jones. It’s also easy to go the route of dismissing his efforts as easily attainable because he played the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

ESPN’s Marcus Spears, a former NFL defensive end who’s seen a few good quarterbacks in his day, agrees with former NFL coordinator and head coach Rex Ryan, who has him rated higher than Baker Mayfield, who some of you are in love with. Here’s Spears on that subject.

Naturally, in a world where most of us play Fantasy football, Jones’ explosion is an attention getter. With him playing one of the most recognizable positions in all of sports and doing so in New York, his efforts get amplified. Keep in mind the most important thing in all of this.

He replaced Eli Manning.

Jones is the real deal, and we’re set up for some great quarterback duels going forward in the NFC East. Carson Wentz is in Philly. Dak Prescott is working on a mega deal with the Dallas Cowboys. Who knows what’s going on with Dwayne Haskins. Recently Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden stated he’s sticking with Case Keenum despite an 0-3 start because ‘the season isn’t over yet’.

We know Jones is smart. He went to Duke. We know he’s been coached well. He’s been tutored by a true quarterback whisperer David Cutcliffe, who also tutored Peyton Manning. Do the Eagles have a problem? That’s difficult to say, but let’s all agree on this. We’re going to see some great duels between Wentz and Jones going forward. They should weep them this season. We’ll see what happens after that.
