Philadelphia Eagles bringing back Orlando Scandrick was inevitable
The Philadelphia Eagles have reached code red for the cornerback position once again. Therefore, Orlando Scandrick is back in the mix.
There’s just something about cornerbacks that the Philadelphia Eagles cannot get right. Over the years, we’ve seen players who have excelled in other systems come in and look completely washed-up while playing the position in Philly.
Then, some players who have been relatively healthy throughout their career’s come to Philly, and suddenly, they are injury-prone. It’s a puzzling situation that’s completely unavoidable at this point. And once again, we’re looking at a situation where the Eagles are desperate for cornerbacks.
Jalen Mills is still out due to his foot injury from last season. Cre’Von LeBlanc is currently out for his foot injury, which he suffered in training camp. Ronald Darby is expected to miss some time due to a hamstring injury. Sidney Jones started on Thursday night but quickly left with a hamstring injury of his own. Then, we all saw what happened to Avonte Maddox as well.
By the end of the Thursday night game, the Eagles left Lambeau Field with two healthy cornerbacks in Rasul Douglas, and the frequent practice squadder, Craig James. At that point, the Eagles needed to sign a guy no matter what. And the guy happened to be veteran cornerback, Orlando Scandrick, who spent the summer with the team before getting cut.
Scandrick coming back was bound to happen
Many assumed that Orlando Scandrick would be back by week two as he would’ve come cheaper, but the Eagles didn’t need help at cornerback at the time. Therefore, they left Scandrick alone on the free agency market. At this point, though, the Birds had no choice but to bring him back.
Aside from a big name on the trade market (you know who), Scandrick is the Eagles’ best option to replace the handful of injured corners right now. While the veteran may no longer be an upgrade, it’s not like the Eagles were doing a great job at cornerback anyway.
At this point, the Eagles are one of the worst secondaries in the league. It’s no secret. They needed help regardless, and Scandrick is the most reliable name available. Plus, he already knows the defense as he spent the summer in Philly. The hope is that the Eagles do trade for a more prominent name so they can push Scanrick into the nickel. But right now, they have to work with what they got. It’s not an ideal solution — but right now, it’s the only solution.
