The Philadelphia Eagles need help at cornerback. Could Denver’s Chris Harris Jr. be a decent trade option?
Can we really go another week watching the Philadelphia Eagles secondary get lit up? Not only are the Eagles very thin in-depth when it comes to their cornerbacks — but they are also incompetent when healthy as well.
Avonte Maddox looked like he was hitting a Sophomore slump before his injury. Sidney Jones just can’t seem to get his hamstring right, and Ronald Darby clearly wasn’t fully prepared to play at full speed after recovering from a knee injury.
While we’ve seen some promise from third-year cornerback Rasul Douglas, somebody else has to take over for the Eagles on the other side of the field, and we can’t trust Craig James or Orlando Scandrick to handle it past this week’s game.
That’s why the Eagles need to make a trade. They are a win-now team, so they need to make a win-now move. Howie Roseman has been on the phone with the Jaguars, trying to see what they can send for Jalen Ramsey, but Jacksonville is being difficult.
At this point, it feels like Jacksonville will do everything in their power to keep Ramsey on board unless a team gets so desperate to the point where they rob somebody in a deal entirely. That team won’t be the Eagles. Therefore, Roseman might have to look elsewhere for help.
There’s a situation going on in Denver
Right now, the Denver Broncos are off to a horrendous start for the 2019 season. As they wrapped up week four with their fourth loss of the year, their players are beginning to lose their patience. And one player, in particular, is literally counting down the days until he’s set free from the Broncos’ orginization. That player happens to be a cornerback.
Chris Harris Jr. figured he could play out just one more year in Denver despite being disgruntled already. He wanted to give them a chance, but he’s fed up at this point. After Sunday’s loss, Harris actually mentioned the words “thirteen more weeks for me,” according to Pro Football Talk, which indicated that he simply could not wait to be done with his stint in Denver.
Could the Eagles save Harris from wasting his final year in Denver though? It’s possible. Keep in mind, just last year the Eagles were discussing potential deals with the Broncos before the trade deadline, and Harris’ name was apparently in the mix.
Harris might not be on the same talent level as Ramsey, but he is a solid plan B if the pursuit for Ramsey slows down a bit. In 12 games last season, Harris racked up 68 tackles, collected three interceptions, and deflected ten passes. Last season, Pro Football Focus graded Harris out with an impressive 85.5. He’s no Ramsey, but he’s undoubtedly an upgrade.
