In conclusion: As amazing as all of that sounds, it’s just the beginning.

No one’s going to second guess the Giants’ decision to settle on a generational talent like Saquon Barkley, but you know the old adage. If you see a franchise quarterback you take him. In 2018’s NFL Draft, the Giants were still holding on to old memories in the form of Eli Manning. They selected Barkley second overall, and Darnold came off of draft boards one spot later at pick three.

The narrative was the Jets had found their quarterback of the future, and that remained the story until the 2019 NFL Draft when the Giants took Daniel Jones sixth overall in 2019’s selection meeting. Darnold fell ill. Jones found a starting role, and now, the Jets are back to being the Giants’ little brothers again.

Both Darnold and Jones are a long way from seeing their stories conclude, but that’s the tale for now. We’ll have to wait for the next chapter when Darnold returns to the field in 2019, whenever that is. Will that be on October 6th when the Jets visit ‘The Linc’. We’ll have to wait and see, but for now, it doesn’t seem likely.
