The Philadelphia Eagles could get Timmy Jernigan back sooner than they originally expected.

The Philadelphia Eagles have dealt with an overwhelming amount of injuries so far in 2019, but there is a light at the end of that tunnel. They may be getting a key piece of their defense, Timmy Jernigan, back sooner than expected.

As of late, the last three years to be exact, the Eagles have been a team defined by injuries and the way they’ve overcome them. No unit on the team has been hit as hard as the defensive line. and the secondary.

Through the first month of the season, the Eagles have lost free-agent acquisitions Malik Jackson and Timmy Jernigan to injuries, but a recent social media post from Jernigan has given Eagles fans and his teammates hope that he may return sooner than was originally expected.

Per John Clark of NBC PhiladelphiaJernigan’s injury was diagnosed as a small crack in his foot. While the original team report of a broken foot made everyone fear the worst, it seems the Eagles defensive tackle is healing quickly. Jernigan has already shed his walking boot, and he took to social media to tell everyone that he’s progressing ahead of schedule.

Jernigan’s teammates have held down the fort admirably in his and jackson’s absence, but Jernigan’s return to the lineup would represent a major boost to the teams’ depth.

The original time table for his return was estimated to be anywhere between four to six weeks, but this latest development leaves room for the hope he could be back even sooner. During that time, the Eagles will face off against the New York Jets, Minnesota Vikings, Dallas Cowboys, and Buffalo Bills.

Realistically, Jernigan could be back in time for a marquee Week 7 matchup in Dallas, but even a conservative estimate would have him back in time for the Bills game. In the meantime, the Eagles will continue to carry the leagues second-ranked run defense into matchups with four run-first teams. They are in a strong position to be competitive and win all four upcoming contests, and if Jernigan returns he will serve as an added shot in the arm for a team that’s starting to heat up.
