Orlando Scandrick figured it would only be a matter of time before the Philadelphia Eagles would bring him back.

Back in August, the Philadelphia Eagles were trying to figure out who was worthy of cracking the final 53-man roster. For that, the last game of the preseason mattered a lot. Typically, if veteran players are inactive for the week four preseason matchup, it means they made the team.

Veteran cornerback Orlando Scandrick fell under that category of being a healthy veteran, who was inactive. However, his situation didn’t have the outcome you would typically expect. For the first time in his career, Scandrick wasn’t on an opening day roster.

The Eagles ended up releasing Scandrick during their final cuts. Many expected the Eagles to bring the veteran back by week two, but that wouldn’t happen either. Scandrick went through the first four weeks without a team. Was that because nobody wanted him? Apparently not.

According to NJ Advanced Media’s Mike Kaye, Scandrick had multiple opportunities on the table. While he wanted to get back out on the field, Scandrick wasn’t going to take just any job. The opportunity had to be right. Soon, that correct opportunity would come.

Scandrick has been waiting for the call

It comes as no secret the Philadelphia Eagles have a depleted secondary. Jalen Mills, Cre’Von LeBlanc, and Ronald Darby have all missed time at this point. Then on Thursday night last week, Sidney Jones and Avonte Maddox both suffered injuries as well, leaving the Eagles with only two healthy cornerbacks available in Rasul Douglas and Craig James.

To no surprise, the Birds brought back somebody who was familiar with the system in Orlando Scandrick, who was clearly excited to be back. Is that the end-all, be-all the for the Eagles at the cornerback position? Hopefully not. Even with Scandrick on board, the depth is still quite thin.

At this point, the Eagles must make a bigger splash in the trade market. As we know, signing guys off the street doesn’t help a team that’s talented enough to be Super Bowl bound. Even though the Eagles will eventually get healthy again at the position, they can’t afford to wait. After a 2-2 start to the year, the Eagles need to be geared up for their tough stretch of the schedule.
