The Philadelphia Eagles continue to deal with critical injuries, as certain players are not cleared for practice yet.

It seems the Philadelphia Eagles are dealing with the infamous injury-plague once again in 2019. Last year, the Eagles were one of the most injured teams in the NFL. This year the situation seems no different as the Birds constantly deal with key players being out of the picture.

Last week, the Eagles were fortunate to gain a couple of players back for their Thursday night showdown against the Green Bay Packers. Wide receiver Alshon Jeffery and tight end Dallas Goedert were both able to play after dealing with calf strains.

However, the team also suffered multiple injuries during the matchup as well. The already thin cornerback corps took not one, but two hits on Thursday as Sidney Jones and Avonte Maddox both left the game before it ended with injuries.

While a couple of other players got shaken up as well, it doesn’t seem like any other mishaps were anything too serious, which is good. Just because the Eagles didn’t suffer more than a couple of injuries, doesn’t mean the team is in clear right now though.

With Week 5 just days away, there’s still a handful of players who are questionable for the game against the Jets. Eagles’ head coach Doug Pederson offered a few updates during his pre-practice press conference on Wednesday.

A few injury updates:

DeSean Jackson, WR

During week two’s matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, DeSean Jackson aggravated a lingering abdomen injury. Initially, it was stated he was dealing with a groin issue, the but diagnosis changed heading into Week 3. Jackson was suggested surgery, but the veteran opted out.

His earliest return was set for the New York Jets matchup this week, but that’s not a one-hundred percent possibility. As of Wednesday, Jackson is NOT practicing. In fact, he’s still rehabbing. The chances of Jackson playing this week seem slim, which is fine. There’s no sense in risking further injury in a game against one of the NFL’s worst defenses.

Avonte Maddox, CB

When Avonte Maddox took a hit from one of his own teammates last week, it looked like his injury was severe. Anytime a player has to be carried out on a stretcher; it’s never a good sign. Despite getting injured, it sounds like Maddox is actually going to be okay and avoided a major mishap.

The second-year cornerback was diagnosed with a concussion and a neck sprain. Currently, there is no timetable for return. As of Wednesday, Maddox remains in concussion protocol and is still dealing with some neck pain. Pederson won’t rule him in or out this week, but the chances of him playing are pretty thin at this point. The good news is he is doing well, though.

Sidney Jones, CB

Up until week four, Sidney Jones avoided injuries. Of course, a healthy streak wouldn’t last long, though. During the first quarter of last week’s game, Jones suddenly left the field and headed to the locker room after experiencing pain in his hamstring.

Once again, Jones’ hamstring has failed him. This marks the third season in a row where Jones will likely miss games, and this marks the third time that Jones is dealing with a hamstring injury. On Wednesday, Jones had no plans of practicing. According to Pederson, the cornerback is listed as ‘day-to-day.’ That could mean he will be back tomorrow — or he could be back in weeks. You never know with these hamstring injuries at this point.
