Philadelphia Eagles: New York Jets experts share team’s biggest weaknesses
ITI: Who are the guys that don’t get the national attention that Eagles fans need to know?
Boy Green: On offense, you’d have to monitor a guy like Ty Montgomery who is listed at both running back and wide receiver on the roster. He’s a versatile piece that needs to get more playing time with the offense.
Le’Veon Bell has been playing a surreal amount of snaps so far this season and it isn’t sustainable. Ty can handle a healthier workload and should be trusted with one. He can hurt defenses in a lot of ways. He’s doesn’t get the love nationally, but he’s a really solid piece.
Defensively, linebacker Blake Cashman has been a pleasant surprise out of Minnesota. He was a fifth-round draft choice and was thrown into a positional group that didn’t initially appear to have much room for another guy. Still, Blake earned his opportunities. That was furthered along by injuries to CJ Mosley and Avery Williamson before the season that opened up a spot for Cashman.
Justin T. Fried: I’d say Brian Poole has pleasantly surprised Jets fans this year. The team’s cornerbacks are very weak but he’s done a very good job of holding down the ‘nickel’ role. He’s Pro Football Focus’ highest-graded cornerback through four weeks which says a lot.
Elsewhere, I agree with Boy Green’s assessment of Cashman. He’s one half of a duo that also features Neville Hewitt. They’ve filled in and been solid for the injured Avery Williamson and C.J. Mosley at inside linebacker. I also don’t think Marcus Maye gets nearly enough love as he’s overshadowed by Jamal Adams, but he’s had a really solid season so far.
As for the standouts on offense, I think that’s better left unsaid.
