Philadelphia Eagles won’t be able to trade for Jalen Ramsey after all
The Philadelphia Eagles truly do want Jalen Ramsey. Unfortunately, there really isn’t any way to get him at this point.
Many like to call Philadelphia Eagles General Manager, Howie Roseman a wizard — but not even a wizard can force the Jacksonville Jaguars to trade their star cornerback Jalen Ramsey at this point. It’s been a long couple of weeks, filled with constant rumors regarding the All-Pro defensive back.
As Ramsey desires not only a big payday for his phenomenal play in the secondary, he also demanded a trade a couple of weeks back as he got into a heated argument with Jaguars’ head coach, Doug Marrone. Pretty much everybody involved with making deals in Jacksonville is willing to depart with Ramsey for the right price — but the one person holding up the agreement is the most powerful. That’s Jaguars’ owner, Shad Kahn.
Over the last couple of weeks, multiple teams apparently made offers for Ramsey. According to ESPN writer Chris Mortensen, the Eagles were one of them, offering a first-rounder and a second-rounder as they grow desperate at the cornerback position.
As we know, the Jaguars turned it down. And apparently, the Jags turned down a pair of first-rounders as well. It seemed like Jacksonville was just over their heads for a moment as reasonable offers came crawling in. At this point though it’s become clear the owner is putting a stop to any negotiations as he intends on keeping Ramsey around potentially for the long run.
Jalen Ramsey to Philly? Mission Impossible
“We have to do the right thing for the team,” Khan mentioned on Wednesday according to the AP Press’s Mark Long. I think we value him highly. We’re still looking at what is the right thing for the Jaguars, and I think right now the best thing is to have him be part of the team.”
Khan said similar things of sort earlier this week and even last week as well. After hearing his constant resistance towards the idea of trading Ramsey, and seeing what kind of deals were being turned down, it’s become pretty apparent that the Eagles won’t get their hands on the All-Pro quarterback through the trade market.
It’s a disappointing situation for sure, as the Eagles were labeled ‘front-runners’ to land Ramsey. Looking at Philly’s cornerback situation, a player of Ramsey’s caliber would be a significant upgrade. At this point, though, landing him is a pipe dream. What the owner wants — the owner gets. And the owner sure doesn’t want to lose his best player.
