Peter Schrager labels Doug Pederson most underrated coach in NFL
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson always seems to miss out on praise. Not this time, though.
Every single time a head coach power rankings list comes out, we always tend to get a little bit worked up more than usual. When it comes to weekly team power rankings and whatnot, we always expect the Philadelphia Eagles not to be as high as they should be.
Obviously, we’ve come to like the underdog mentality as the rest of the league sleeps on the Eagles’ ability to win at a high level. While we’re alright with the team power rankings snubbing the Birds as a whole, it’s always hard to get over the fact that Doug Pederson continues to get snubbed on lists that contain the top head coaches in the NFL.
Sure, Doug Pederson is always in the conversation for top ten, but he’s always trailing a few guys who he has proven to be better than. Of course, a lot of the mainstream media won’t acknowledge that, though. This time, somebody within does.
Peter Schrager states his case
Good Morning Football co-host and Fox Sports writer Peter Schrager made a strong case for Doug Pederson on Thursday, labeling him as one of the NFL’s most underrated head coaches. As he mentions that younger coaches like Sean McVay and Kyle Shannahan tend to garner a ton of praise all the time, Pederson always seems to be forgotten about.
Meanwhile, Pederson is quietly one of the league’s most dominant coaches. As Schrager put it, “Pederson just quietly wins every big game.” Doug Pederson reminded everybody of that fact just last week when the 1-2 Eagles trotted into Lambeau Field against an undefeated Green Bay Packers team and won.
With that win, Pederson’s Thursday Night Football record increased to 5-0. Not to mention the fact that he’s not only defeated Sean McVay twice in two meetings, but he also took down arguably the greatest coach of all-time in Super Bowl LII. Not too many coaches can say the same.
After seeing what Pederson did with the Eagles offense in 2017, when he lost his franchise quarterback for the year, we will have to forever defend him. While some publications tend to give the Eagles’ head coach some credit, it isn’t fabricated that the play caller is snubbed on these lists that come out more often than not. So when Pederson does get the credit he rightfully deserves, it’s necessary to acknowledge it.
