Philadelphia Eagles make NFL history in win over New York Jets
The Philadelphia Eagles made NFL history with that Week 5 win.
The result of Sunday’s game between the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets was never in doubt. Philly dominated for four quarters, and they made league history along the way.
When an NFL team is favored to make the playoffs, there are a few boxes that need to be checked. That team should be solid on both sides of the ball, they should bring forth a unified team effort, and they should crush lesser opponents. The Eagles checked all three of those boxes on Sunday afternoon versus the Jets.
Philly continued their dominance in the trenches, holding the Jets to just six points in the contest. The Eagles defensive front shined, allowing just 43 yards on 15 carries to superstar tailback Le’Veon Bell. With the Jets primary offensive playmaker neutralized, the Eagles’ pass rushers were able to pin their ears back and get after quarterback Luke Falk all day long.
Falk was constantly under assault for four quarters as the Eagles defense feasted on the Jets offensive line. Philly’s defense came away with ten sacks, two interceptions, and two defensive touchdowns. NBC Philly’s Reuben Frank is the best at providing stats, and here’s another.
Philadelphia was in control for the entirety of Sunday’s game, and they did it with a defense that had been routinely labeled as a weakness through the first month of the season.
Everyone from Orlando Scandrick to Nate Gerry to Daeshon Hall got involved in the action as they combined for an interception, three sacks and two forced fumbles. For a team that was treading water because of injuries, the Eagles defense looks to be righting the ship heading into October. Sometimes all it takes is a beatable opponent and a chance to make history.
