5. When you have so many holes, you can’t afford to overspend.

This season, Eagles fans have been treated to a version of Howie Roseman that they aren’t too familiar with. By Roseman’s standards, things have been relatively quiet.

The most loyal fans in sports have waited patiently in hopes that their favorite general manager would make the splash signing, but when all of the rumors stopped swirling and when all of the dust settled, several guys Eagles fans wanted, Jadeveon Clowney, Minkah Fitzpatrick, and Jalen Ramsey all ended up somewhere else and in other jerseys.

Some of the theory was if the Eagles were serious about making a serious title run, they’d need to add guys who could help put them over the top, and the cost shouldn’t be of any consequence. Those who subscribed to that theory should now be on the same page as everyone else.

One or two guys aren’t going to make a difference. In the case of Clowney and Ramsey, mega deals have to be hammered out at the season’s end. Then, there’s the other thing. Throw out Ramsey because he hasn’t suited up for his new team yet, but outside of him, can we say these other teams are winning because of those acquisitions?

In the Eagles’ case, renting Golden Tate for a season didn’t work. We don’t know if the Clowney and Ramsey rentals will work for the teams they play for. Rather than attack Roseman, why don’t we see how things play out. After everything that he’s done right, hasn’t he earned a little trust? Shouldn’t fans allow him the benefit of the doubt, see how things go down the road, and reassess this one a little later?
