We’ve gone from ‘Howie Season’ to seeing a conservative side in Howie Roseman’s nature, but should that concern Philadelphia Eagles fans?

If you’re one of those people who are mad at Philadelphia Eagles vice president and general manager Howie Roseman today, then you should be ashamed of yourselves. He’s arguably the best in the business at what he does for his football team. If you disagree with that, put yourself to the test.

Outside of the New England Patriots, who can you say is better at manipulating salaries, walking a thin line with the salary cap, and finding really good players at bargain-basement prices? Did you see how quiet things got? Do you know why that is? It’s because no one is better.

Thanks to the culture that the Eagles have created in Philadelphia, the ‘City of Brotherly Love’ has become an attractive spot for free agents, and now, because of Roseman’s reputation, every available free agent or rumored trade commodity is going to be associated with the Eagles.

There’s just one thing guys and gals. He can’t sign everybody! Here’s something else to chew on. What lies behind many Eagles fans’ dissatisfaction in the way Roseman’s handled things is a deeper issue. The real concern is whether or not his silence means he may not be all-in on a Super Bowl run and his failure to land the big fish means he may not be convinced that this is an Eagles team that can win it all.

Much of Roseman’s job consists of two things. Yes, he has to put the team in the best position to win right now, but he also has to balance that with putting the team in position to be better for the long term. Jadeveon Clowney and Jalen Ramsey weren’t going to do that for this Eagles team. Golden Tate sure didn’t.

Really? Is that where we are? We’ve gone from ‘Howie Season’ to blatant disrespect.

The NFL isn’t Fantasy football and the Eagles aren’t your Fantasy football team. It isn’t about acquiring and trading guys like Pokemon cards. There are a lot of other factors at play. Think about something for a second. No one is even sure that the Los Angeles Rams will be able to re-sign Jalen Ramsey at the season’s end. There’s no guarantee the Seattle Seahawks will bang out a deal that Jadeveon Clowney sees as satisfactory.

To make long stories short. They could be expensive rentals that didn’t play a 16-game schedule for their current team, and in the Rams case, if they lose him in the offseason, they’ve also lost two first-round draft choices and a fourth-round choice as well. The Jacksonville Jaguars must be laughing their behinds off.

Next. Are Jackson and Sproles done as Eagles?. dark

Meanwhile, in Philly, ‘Birds; fans and the media are being treated to a personality trait of Roseman’s that they haven’t seen often, conservatism. Unless things heat up quickly, Philly’s ‘new norm’ is on hold for another season, but when you lay down to go ‘night night’, keep one thing in mind if you’re an Eagles fan. You’ve got the right man for the job. Everything’s going to be just fine.
