Are DeSean Jackson and Darren Sproles done as Philadelphia Eagles?
Have we seen DeSean Jackson and Darren Sproles as Eagles for a final time?
Here’s something no one wants to say. To be honest, it may even be hard to believe given all of the reports that we’ve heard, but at this point, we’re approaching Week 7, and there seems to be no change in either of their statuses. For that reason, there has to be a very real question that’s asked. Have the Philadelphia Eagles and their fans seen DeSean Jackson and Darren Sproles for the final time in midnight green?
There’s been no medical evidence to support that. Philly hasn’t placed either of them on the team’s IR (injured reserve). Heck, this could just be panic setting in, but let’s be frank. At this point, some of you have to be asking yourself the same thing.
On the Friday leading up to the Eagles’ Week 7 matchup with the Dallas Cowboys, head coach Doug Pederson sounded very confident about ’10’. He’s running. he’s a competitor. He wants to be back on the field. There’s just one thing though.
The longer DeSean Jackson sits out, the more you hear the phrase ‘sports hernia’ as a rumor. It’s never from the Eagles themselves. It’s only a rumor (and not a very good one).
No one knows if that’s what his issue is, but at this point, everyone’s left to our vices and guessing. The ITI staff employs no team doctor, so we cheated. We went to Google learned the potential time frame for recovery for someone dealing with a sports hernia is six to 12 weeks (and that’s if you’ve had surgery and if you aren’t playing football).
Ladies and gentlemen, everyone knows the type of competitor that ’10’ is, but he hasn’t played a full 16-game slate since he was in Philly the last time. That was 2013.
Now, as he gets older, so does his body. You have to start wondering if the Eagles are trying to guess ‘when’ he’ll return or if the Eagles are trying to guess ‘if’ he’ll return.
Then, there’s the case of Darren Sproles. Let’s get something straight. He wasn’t providing anything that the team could do without him when he was healthy. Boston Scott isn’t the ‘next Sproles’ and never was. We were all lied to. The Eagles don’t just need a deep threat and help in the secondary. They need another running back as well, and Sproles, even if he returns, isn’t the answer.
With all of that being said here we are. Another week passes, and the Eagles enter another important game without two guys who were supposed to be important to the offense. Everyone sits patiently for Jackson’s return and battles the voice in their heads that’s beginning to tell them he won’t, but for Sproles, it’s a little different. It’s beginning to feel like we’ve seen him in an Eagles jersey for the final time.
