Philadelphia Eagles: Revisiting Joe Douglas draft choices, Was he a failure?
Donnel Pumphrey, running back, Round 4 (132nd overall)
It’s difficult to say Donnel Pumphrey‘s name without laughing. He’s the all-time leader in rushing yards in NCAA Division I FBS history, and none of that translated to the NFL.
On September 15th of 2017, he was placed on the team’s injured reserve after suffering a torn hamstring in practice, and he’s never risen past the practice squad since. He never carried the ball for the Eagles once in a game that counted. Grade: F
Shelton Gibson, wide receiver, Round 5 (166th overall)
All Eagles fans heard about Shelton Gibson was he was a speedster that would help Philly take the top off of defenses. All they got out of him in 20 career games with no starts was three catches for 59 yards, and 48 of those yards came on one catch. Grade: F
Nathan Gerry, linebacker, Round 5 (184th overall)
Nathan Gerry actually looks like someone who could actually produce if he progresses nicely. The problem is the Eagles need that progression to happen more quickly than it has. Gerry has 47 total tackles and three interceptions in 30 career games with six starts (three starts have come in 2019).
Again, it could be better, but then again, it could also be worse. Grade: C
Elijah Qualls, defensive tackle, Round 6 (214th overall)
Elijah Qualls racked up a grand total of four tackles as a member of the Eagles and despite winding up on three more rosters, he hasn’t played a down of football since Week 17 of 2017. Grade: F
Overall Grade for 2017’s draft: D-
