Philadelphia Eagles roundup: When will Avonte Maddox return?
It’s literally been a month since we last saw Avonte Maddox on the field for the Philadelphia Eagles in an NFL game. How close is he to a return?
Don’t count Philadelphia Eagles second-year cornerback Avonte Maddox in that theory that this team has gotten complacent following their lone Super Bowl victory. You see, Maddox arrived a few months after that.
Philly took ’29’ in 2018’s NFL Draft during the fourth round, 125th overall, and though he was present when Philly unveiled the banner, he has no ring of his own. You can tell by the way he plays that he’s fully intent on earning one.
Unfortunately, for the Eagles and their fans, he hasn’t been on the field since Philly’s surprising victory versus the Green Bay Packers, their only loss of the season.
Eagles head coach Doug Pederson spoke on Maddox’s status a couple of times this week. The first time was on the Wednesday leading up to Week 8’s game versus the Buffalo Bills.
"Avonte Maddox will not be available (versus the Buffalo Bills). He’s still dealing with some soreness. The thing is, with Avonte, just to be clear it’s a head and a neck injury that he’s suffered, so he’s technically still in the (concussion) protocol until he clears both injuries…"
By Friday, it appeared that Maddox had improved but still wasn’t ready for any in-game action. ‘Avonte Maddox will do some service-team reps today, so he’s getting close’. That was Coach Pederson’s assessment on the following Friday.
With that being said, here’s what everyone can bank on definitively. Avonte Maddox won’t be on the field for the Eagles versus the Buffalo Bills. Next week, on November 3rd, Philly gets the Chicago Bears at home. His status for that one is up in the air, but if you know anything about this team, you can probably guess that you’ll hear a lot of ‘he’s day-to-day’ leading up to Week 9’s game.
