Philadelphia Eagles fans shouldn’t panic. If you think about it, the team you’re watching should look eerily similar to the one you saw in 2018.

Here’s Dictionary.com’s definition of ‘deja vu’. It’s the illusion of having previously experienced something actually being encountered for the first time or disagreeable familiarity or sameness. Why is that important? If you’re a Philadelphia Eagles fan, you might allow yourself to be tricked into thinking that this horrendous start you’re witnessing is unfamiliar territory, but it isn’t.

As a matter of fact, they were at this exact same position at the exact same time last season.

After seven games of 2018’s regular season, Philly sat at 3-4, and they were losers of three of their last four games. That included embarrassing come-from-behind victories by the Tennessee Titans and the Carolina Panthers. Carson Wentz was struggling. Doug Pederson‘s playcalling was being called into question. Everybody was frustrated with the coordinators, and one of the loudest narratives of the early part of the season was former offensive coordinator Frank Reich was missed more than everyone thought he would be.

Does that sound familiar?

Things got worse. That 3-4 record would swell to a 4-6 hole, but Philly would rebound. The team refocused. Philly would rebound and win five of their last six games. In the playoffs, they handed the favored Chicago Bears a home loss in the Wildcard Round, and in the divisional round, they came within a few plays of reaching their second-consecutive NFC Championship Game appearance.

What does all of that mean you ask? At 3-4, Philly is one game out of first place in the NFC East. Nine games remain. This season is a long way from being over. Sure, the 2018 Eagles didn’t have to play three straight road games in October. They didn’t have to conquer their six most difficult games over a six-game stretch either, but this is a team of professionals, and if you know anything about the guys on this team or the city they play in, you know one thing for sure.

Any rumor that they’re complacent or that they’re going to give up after seven weeks has to be seen as false. Hang in there Eagles fans. Expect this team’s best effort going forward. Part of the reason you love this team so much is they’re a real-life version of Rocky Balboa. Let’s all hope they pick themselves off of the canvas and start throwing a few punches.
