At first glance, it would appear that there isn’t much to the Philadelphia Eagles trading for Genard Avery, but a closer look might reveal that Philly may have screwed the Browns again.

At this point, you have to ask yourself whether or not the Cleveland Browns fans are sick of the Philadelphia Eagles at this point. These two have quite the history with one another, but there’s one theory involving the two that actually lacks accuracy. There’s one thing that needs to be cleaned up before this goes any further.

That needs to be done before going any further.

Often, when talking with other football fans (no one worth noting), you’ll hear a story that details how the Browns were screwed out of Donovan McNabb in the 1999 NFL Draft by Philly. Again, this story never comes from a reputable source, but hang in there. A point needs to be made.

To make long stories short, that isn’t what happened. The Browns had the first-overall selection in 1999. They went with Tim Couch. Donovan McNabb came off of the board one selection later at pick number two. Almost 20 years later however the Browns would screw themselves over, and again at Philly’s expense, and ‘The Birds’ would snatch a franchise quarterback right from under their noses leaving the Browns to continue their search for their franchise quarterback.

Prior to 2016’s selection meeting, the Browns traded the second-overall selection to Philly, and that pick became Carson Wentz. The details were as follows: The Eagles acquired the 2016 second-overall pick and a 2017 4th Round pick. The Browns got Philly’s first-round, the eight-overall pick along with picks 77 and 100. They also got a first-round selection from Philly in 2017 and a second-round pick in 2018.

The Browns parlayed a little and made some moves with that capital, and that wound up them gaining more picks. Some of which wound up being guys who wound up elsewhere like Deshone Kizer, Cody Kessler, Jabrill Peppers, and Corey Coleman. Others wound up giving the Browns the opportunity to take Spencer DrangoRicardo LouisChad Thomas, Denzel Ward, and eventually Damarious Randall.

You can all see how things have worked out for both sides. One day before 2019’s version of the trade deadline, these two franchises have struck another deal. This one sends defensive end Genard Avery to Philly for an undisclosed draft choice. That’s infuriated some of the Browns fan base.

Recently, Browns beat writer Mary Kay Cabot tried to start a petition to help get Avery more playing time. The team dealt him a day later to ‘The Birds’. Might Philly have taken the measure of Cleveland again? Only time will tell, but if you’re an Eagles fan, you have to hope that’s the case.
