Philadelphia Eagles: 4 Horrendous trades during Doug Pederson’s tenure
3. Can we all agree that Jordan Matthews is better than Ronald Darby?
If everyone’s being fair, they’d have to say that Ronald Darby has some talent. He’s had his moments, and maybe the constant injuries have been the only thing that stood between him and greatness. Still, it can’t be ignored.
Darby has been more of an issue to this team than an asset.
He’s only been available for 24 of a possible 45 games, including the playoffs, and that’s because of injury. Lately, the man who’s paid like he’s Philly’s best corner has performed like he’s one of the worst, and that’s not all. Philly gave up a very good target for Carson Wentz to get him.
Darby was added to the Eagles’ nest on August 11th of 2017 thanks to a trade that sent wide receiver Jordan Matthews and their 2018 third-round draft selection to the Buffalo Bills to acquire Darby’s services.
At the time, this wasn’t a bad idea. The Eagles seemed to have an embarrassment of riches at the wide receiver position, and Philly seemed a little desperate at cornerback. These days, it’s easy to look at Darby and think a guy who was once a second-round draft selection should be better. Truthfully, that isn’t an unfair criticism.
