Eagles injury updates: Could DeSean Jackson return in Week 9?
In light of Doug Pederson’s recent comments, are we to assume that DeSean Jackson could play in Week 9 versus the Chicago Bears?
It seems like it’s been forever since we’ve seen DeSean Jackson in a Philadelphia Eagles uniform. By NFL standards, it isn’t quite forever, but it’s close. Forever can be Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in a two-minute drill when your team is trying to hold on to a late lead.
It felt like the time in between the Eagles victory over the New York Jets and their next victory, one that would come three weeks later versus the Buffalo Bills was forever. Those two games weren’t even a month apart, so with that being said, seeing as how the last time everyone saw Jackson on the field for four quarters was in Week 1, a game where the Eagles needed a second-half comeback to beat the Washington Redskins, then the answer is actually yes. It’s been forever since we’ve seen DeSean Jackson playing.
It’s now Week 9. Half of the Eagles regular-season games are over, and Philly stands at a very mediocre 4-4. Every press conference that team head coach Doug Pederson is a part of seems to involve a question about when the injured guys will get back. His most recent, a Wednesday morning presser leading into Philly’s home date with the Chicago Bears again led to another question about ‘D Jax’ and his prognosis.
Here’s some of what Pederson had to say on the subject.
"DeSean has been looking really good, he’s been working really hard through his rehab. I expect to get him into practice a little bit today and see where he is at, but I am optimistic obviously, and we’ll take it day-by-day."
Is Jackson further along than we might have expected? Will he play on Sunday versus the Bears? Could this be the reason that Philly was so quiet as the NFL trade deadline neared? We may never know the answers to those questions, but one thing is certain.
If Jackson plays on Sunday and plays well, fans are going to get over their aggravation with Philly’s sudden passivity very quickly.
