6-2. Previous: 8th. Seattle Seahawks. 7. team. 36.

Who knows how it happened, but the San Francisco 49ers leapfrogged both the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams, and now they’re the class of the NFC West. Whether fair or unfair, Russell Wilson‘s MVP candidacy seems to run hot and cold, and it fluctuates based on whether or not the ‘Hawks are winning. Here’s what we know though.

Wilson is one of the best in the entire NFL. He’s a legitimate MVP candidate, but if he’s going to win league MVP and catch a 49ers team that seems to be improving each week, he’s going to have to play at a super-human level week in and week out.

It seems unfair, but when you play quarterback and when you’re paid like he is, that’s the job description.

5-3. Previous: 6th. Kansas City Chiefs. 8. team. 124.

The Kansas City Chiefs are probably better than their 5-3 win-loss total says they are, but the facts are the facts. They’re not playing well on defense. Their measure continues to be taken by good teams in primetime, and their best player Patrick Mahomes is dealing with some physical limitations.

They definitely deserve to be in everyone’s top ten, but they’ll need to play better down the stretch if they intend to make their dreams of winning the Super Bowl a reality.
