Philadelphia Eagles name Jordan Howard honorary captain vs. Bears
Former Bears running back Jordan Howard will serve as the Philadelphia Eagles’ sixth captain this weekend.
This week’s game is essential for the Philadelphia Eagles. As a team that was favored to win the NFC, nobody expected the Eagles to struggle right out of the gate. Unfortunately, they were only able to put together a 4-4 record at this point.
Heading into the bye week with a victory and a winning record should be key for the Eagles right now. Therefore, they need to do all they can to take down the Chicago Bears on Sunday. Again, this game is important for the Eagles’ team as a whole. However, it may be more critical for one of their guys in the backfield — that’s for sure.
Running back Jordan Howard joined the Eagles this past offseason by way of a trade. As the former Bears back fell out of favor within the Chicago offense, their front office shopped Howard around until eventually sending him off to Philly for a conditional late-round pick.
Since Howard grew fed up with the situation in Chicago, he was happy to get a fresh start with the Eagles. And as we compare the numbers between Howard and Chicago’s backfield production, the veteran running back is more than likely satisfied with the results. Just because he’s satisfied, though, doesn’t mean he won’t try to do all he can to stick it to his former team this Sunday.
Sunday’s honorary captain
This afternoon, Jordan Howard will trot out to midfield for the coin toss as he becomes Philadelphia’s honorary captain against his former team. While Howard tries to brush this off as just another matchup, we all know it means a little more to him than he says.
Don’t be surprised to see No. 24 run a little bit harder than he normally would on Sunday afternoon. Considering Howard is a talented young player who likes to perform with an edge, there’s a good chance he will attempt to churn out his most productive stat line of the season just to show his ex team what they are missing.
