Philadelphia Eagles wideout Jordan Matthews will make his return next weekend as he inked another deal with the Birds.

There aren’t too many things guaranteed in the NFL. However, it seems like you can always bank on veteran wide receiver Jordan Matthews returning to the Philadelphia Eagles at this point. The Eagles needed help at wide receiver moving forward, that’s no secret.

With DeSean Jackson undergoing surgery for his torn abdomen, the Birds had no choice but to put him on the Injured Reserve. That move would free up a roster spot in Philly and made the under-performing wide receivers unit thinner than it already was.

Therefore, a move to acquire a wideout was inevitable for the Eagles. They made a few calls, but ultimately, it became obvious that the front office was going to go down a direction they are quite familiar with. So the Eagles brought in Jordan Matthews for a workout on Tuesday.

After everything reportedly went well, the Eagles soon would sign Jordan Matthews the following afternoon. As you can expect, Matthews couldn’t be happier.

A couple of hours after the announcement of the deal, Matthews took to Twitter to express his feelings regarding his return. So he shared a picture of himself last year smiling after making his first catch during his second stint with the Eagles.

Next weekend, Matthews will get another opportunity to contribute as he takes on his third stint in Philly. Last season, Matthews was a solid addition to the passing game as he collected 20 receptions for 300 yards and two touchdowns.

We’re not sure if Matthews will get a starting role moving forward, but don’t be surprised to see it happen. After all, both Mack Hollins and JJ Arcega-Whiteside haven’t caught a pass since the month of September. In other words, they are hardly productive for the offense. Matthews should surely be an upgrade and will likely get some solid playing time moving forward.
