2. Ummm, dream team! Haha! -Vince Young, July 28th of 2011

Most of you can still remember this one like it was yesterday. The 2011 Eagles were our first foray into just how aggressive a young Howie Roseman could be. During that year’s free agency period, the Eagles lost their minds, signing everyone from defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins and defensive end Jason Babin to cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha and running back Ronnie Brown.

To this day, those all rank as some of the worst signings in team history, but the fate of this team was sealed long before a game was played. Everything fell apart for the Eagles on the day they signed Vince Young.

In his excitement, Young stepped to the podium and uttered these words. ‘Ummm, dream team! Haha!’ Social media didn’t have the effect on popular culture that it has today, but could you imagine what the reaction would be on Twitter if something like that would have been done today? Later, he’d even say that he was competing with Michael Vick for the starting role.

That wasn’t the case at all. That ‘dream team’ thing didn’t work out either.

Despite handing out hefty salaries to everyone, the Eagles finished with a very mediocre 8-8 record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. It wasn’t a total failure of a season. Philly would draft Jason Kelce and sign Evan Mathis, but unfortunately, for Young, whether fair or unfair, he’s given credit for painting a target on Philly’s back early. The team would never recover.

Here’s what Young should have said: ‘I’m excited to be here, and I’m ready to get to work’.
