This Genard Avery idea may work out for the Philadelphia Eagles after all.

Remember when we were all wrapped up with the hype surrounding the trade deadline? It seems like it’s been forever since that happened. The Philadelphia Eagles were quiet when October 28th neared, other than their addition of Genard Avery.

Philly sent a fourth-round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft to the Cleveland Browns for Avery’s services. Since then, there have been three weeks of NFL action, and ‘The Birds’ have played in two games, one was a win and one was a loss.

Up next is a home date with the Seattle Seahawks before they head into a stretch run that’s highlighted by a game versus the Miami Dolphins and four games versus divisional opponents. The Eagles are a team that can make a lot of noise down the stretch, just like the Dallas Cowboys got fat and happy and benefited from an easy schedule early.

Genard Avery will be a key part of all of that. He’s versatile. He’s been used all over the place in Jim Schwartz’s defensive scheme. He’s played linebacker and he’s played defensive end. His contribution figures to be a key piece in what the Eagles do down the stretch. Whether that results in racking up wins or losses remains to be seen.

Earlier this week, Schwartz spoke with the Philly media and spoke very highly of the Eagles’ new addition to their defense, stating ‘He’s done a nice job working really hard to make the most of his opportunities when he’s been out there’.

Here’s more from Philly’s defensive coordinator:

"He’s a bit of a hybrid player, and when we got him, we needed to have a specific plan for the way we were going to use him. The first week we used him just a little bit. (We) used him a little bit more as a defensive end in this last game, but we’ve used him as a hybrid linebacker in there, also."

If all of that’s true, there’s no wonder why some of the Browns fan base was upset when Cleveland deactivated him in earlier games this season and traded him at the deadline. Keep an eye on him Eagles fans. This guy could be special.
