3 Thoughts as Eagles activate practice window for Cre’Von LeBlanc
As expected, the Philadelphia Eagles have activated a 21-day practice window for Cre’Von LeBlanc. Can he play as early as Sunday?
There were many ideas about what the Philadelphia Eagles‘ decision to release Jordan Matthews meant. Theories were tossed around by everyone, ITI included. We thought that move would lead to another, but one thing that we could all agree on, and possibly hoped for was this. The open roster spot led many of us to believe there was a possibility that Cre’Von LeBlanc would be returning sooner rather than later.
It appears ‘soon’ is a very real possibility.
Right at about lunchtime on Tuesday, the Eagles announced that they would be activating a 21-day practice window for LeBlanc. Here are three thoughts.
1. As we expected, this explains why Jordan Matthews was released.
Somebody had to removed from the 53-man roster to make room. Unfortunately, for Matthews, that ‘last in, first out’ theory came into play for him. His third stint in Philly ended after just 14 days.
2. What is a 21-day practice window anyway?
According to NFL rules, now that LeBlanc has been given a 21-day practice window, Philly can elevate him to the active roster at any point in that time frame. If they don’t, he returns to the team’s IR (injured reserve) for the remainder of the season. Might he play Sunday if he has a good week of practice?
3. What does this mean for Craig James?
If LeBlanc is added to the roster, the Eagles would have seven cornerbacks (Ronald Darby, Jalen Mills, Avonte Maddox, Rasul Douglas, Sidney Jones, and Craig James). That makes James the seventh on the depth chart.
Does that mean he’s released? Does that mean Jordan Matthews will be back for a fourth stint? Does Philly go in another direction and find another receiver? We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
