3 Fun facts after Philadelphia Eagles add safety Chris Johnson
The Philadelphia Eagles added a young safety to the practice squad on the eve of Thanksgiving Eve (we’re sure it’s never been called that). Here are three fun facts on Chris Johnson.
The Philadelphia Eagles added some depth on Tuesday with the signing of safety Chris Johnson. He’s a six-foot-three, 200-pound prospect who hasn’t registered his first NFL tackle or interception yet, but he’s definitely worth a mention.
He was a three-year starter at the collegiate level that got invited to the East-West Shrine Game. The Houston Texans added him to their Spring and Summer roster in April, and he was there until October.
1. Reuben Frank is a walking encyclopedia.
Leave it to NBC Sports Philly’s Reuben Frank to drop something no one is thinking about and honestly something half the world didn’t know enough about to comment on anyway. On Tuesday, he tweeted out “The Eagles signed safety Chris Johnson to their practice squad. Probably not related to the safety Chris Johnson from Millersville who played in two strike replacement games for the Eagles in 1987”.
Seriously, why does he know or remember all of this stuff?
2. No, he’s not that other Chris Johnson.
Be forewarned. If you attempt to Google Johnson, you’re going to have to work hard to find him. First, you must weed through all the info on that other Chris Johnson. You know the one, the guy that played for the Tennessee Titans and ran that 40 in 4.24 seconds, so who is this guy? Where is he from?
Philly’s Chris Johnson played his college ball for the North Alabama Lions, and as mentioned, he spent seven months with the Texans and wound up on their practice squad.
3. The practice squad is back at ten players.
Johnson now occupies the spot vacated by Greg Ward, who’s now been promoted to the active roster. The other nine guys on the squad with him are quarterback Kyle Lauletta, offensive linemen Sua Opeta and Keegan Render, running back De’Angelo Henderson Sr., tight ends Scott Orndoff and Josh Perkins, wide receivers Robert Davis and Marcus Green, and defensive tackle Bruce Hector. The holidays are approaching, but it’s business as usual in Philly.
