As he always does, Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson joined Angelo Cataldi following a devastating loss in Miami. Be forewarned. What he said is going to make you angry.

At this point, regardless of what side you’re on, you have to ask the question of whether or not Doug Pederson is the guy to lead the Philadelphia Eagles. Truthfully, an argument can be made for both sides, but as 2019’s season rolls on, there’s been more evidence of his ineptness than there has been of his leadership and ability to coach.

In Week 13, versus an inferior opponent, the Miami Dolphins, laid an egg. What’s been even more maddening has been everything that he’s said since.

Here’s his take immediately after the game was over.

"That’s a good football team. (Their) record does not indicate anything about them at all. They’re well-coached, a disciplined group. They play hard. You see that on film… These guys battle for sixty minutes, and we knew that coming down here."

The immediate reaction to that is this. The record wasn’t supposed to indicate what the Eagles were either. Shouldn’t they battle for sixty minutes too? After all, it was Philly and not Miami that had their destiny in their own hands after the Dallas Cowboys lost twice in five days. It was the Eagles who were supposed to be the better team. It was the Eagles who were playing for a playoff spot.

The Eagles had a 13-point lead in the second half. They ran the ball three more times after that.

On Monday morning, Pederson joined Angelo Cataldi on 94 WIP-FM’s Morning Show, and he said something no coach should ever say, especially when his team is favored and in the middle of a playoff push.

"They played harder than we did, and that’s why I said that I’m disappointed because of that… They wanted this one a little bit more than we did."

Wait. Say what? That would probably be the most damning statement Eagles fans have heard all year had it not been for another that we’re sick of hearing, “that’s on me”.

dark. Next. Does Zach Ertz have an Emmy in his future?

This one stings, but as much as you all are probably sick of hearing this. It isn’t over. Philly is still alive for a playoff spot, but after a loss that Merrill Reese called ‘the low point’ and ‘the most devastating loss of the Doug Pederson era’, no one would blame you if you weren’t convinced that it matters. Expect the Eagles to bounce back versus the New York Giants, but the excuses have to go away. ‘That’s on me’ isn’t going to cut it anymore.
