Philadelphia Eagles will be keeping an eye on whether Jerry Jones will end up firing Jason Garrett if the Dallas Cowboys fail to make the playoffs.

Ask any Philadelphia Eagles fan, and one of the best running jokes surrounding the Dallas Cowboys is how as long as Jerry Jones keeps Jason Garrett around, the team is never going to have what it takes to reach the Super Bowl.

Talent wise, the argument can be made that Dallas should have been able to reach the Super Bowl at least once or twice since 2010 when Garrett officially took over as head coach when Wade Phillips was fired in the middle of the season.

Dating back to the 2014 season, Garrett and the Cowboys have been fortunate enough to win three NFC East titles, and depending on how things play out over the final four weeks, that number could very well increase to four by the end of Week 17.

But in each of those three trips to the playoffs, Dallas was eliminated in the Divisional Round each time, which is part of the reason there’s so much frustration surrounding Garrett with the Cowboys.

As much as Eagles fans don’t want to hear about the possibility of the Cowboys winning their third division title in four seasons, with the way both teams are playing at the moment, no one really knows what to expect when it comes to who will finish on top of the NFC East.

If Philadelphia somehow manages to pull off the unthinkable by finishing ahead of Dallas to win the NFC East for a second time in three years, there’s been plenty of talk over the possibility of Jones and the Cowboys finally moving on from Garrett after all these years.

Nothing is set in stone at the moment since Jones continues to make it clear that he prefers to see how the rest of this year plays out. But after hearing recent comments made by the Cowboys owner on 105.3 The FAN (courtesy of Jon Machota), Jones once again seems to hint that Garrett will be gone after 2019 if Dallas fails to reach the Super Bowl.

For obvious reasons, Eagles fans would love nothing more than to see the Cowboys miss out on yet another potential Super Bowl since no one needs to explain the intensity surrounding this rivalry over the years.

Even if the argument can be made that Doug Pederson deserves to be on the hot seat just as much as Garrett, at least Philadelphia was able to earn a Super Bowl two years ago, and will most likely just make a few changes to the coaching staff to improve for 2020.

Time will tell when it comes to seeing how this situation with Garrett plays out in Dallas, but at least for Philadelphia fans, if they had to choose between the head coach keeping his job or the Eagles reaching the playoffs, this would be a no brainer.
