Now that Ron Rivera is available, the Philadelphia Eagles should strongly consider replacing  Jim Schwartz at defensive coordinator.

Even though the Philadelphia Eagles didn’t make any coaching changes after their devastating Week 14 loss to the Miami Dolphins, Ron Rivera becoming available has brought up an interesting topic of discussion.

On Tuesday, the Carolina Panthers pulled off the surprise move by firing Rivera in the middle of his ninth season with the team that consisted of four playoff appearances, three NFC South titles, and one trip to the Super Bowl.

Dating back to last season, Rivera has found his name on the hot seat numerous times, and there were certainly plenty of surprised football fans see Carolina give the former head coach another chance after missing out on the playoffs in 2018, despite a 6-2 start.

Even this current season, Carolina seemed to be a lock for at least a Wild Card spot back in the middle of October when the team was surging with Kyle Allen under center before it all went downhill for the most part.

Turns out, Carolina’s embarrassing loss at home to the Washington Redskins this past Sunday was the final straw for the Panthers with Rivera, but also it shouldn’t be too long before the former head coach finds himself another gig.

With that being said, Eagles fans will be the first to say that Philadelphia is in desperate need of changes to the coaching staff outside of Doug Pederson when seeing some of the disappointment from the 2019 season.

Mike Groh has rightfully received a ton of blame for his inability to get the offense to live up to the high expectations, but the one name that could be out of a job in a matter of weeks is Jim Schwartz.

First off, Schwartz deserves all of the credit in the world for helping turn around Philadelphia’s defense when he was hired back in 2016, and there’s no way the Eagles win the Super Bowl two years ago without him at defensive coordinator.

But unfortunately, Schwartz has struggled to make a consistent impact for Philadelphia’s defense over the last two seasons, and the team’s most recent loss in Miami just added to the list of reasons as to why the Eagles should consider letting him go.

Plenty of teams will rightfully be expressing heavy interest in Rivera now that his services will be available for 2020, one of which needs to be Philadelphia.

At the end of the day, Rivera seems like he would be a major upgrade over Schwartz when it comes to seeing what he could bring to the defensive side of the football, and the Eagles should strongly consider the move to avoid taking another step back in 2020.
