If the Dallas Cowboys end up parting ways with Jason Garrett, Philadelphia Eagles fans should fear the possibility of Urban Meyer becoming the next head coach.

While the Philadelphia Eagles continue to prepare for Monday’s battle with the New York Giants to keep the NFC East race close with the Dallas Cowboys, it appears the rivalry discussion is getting a little more interesting with Urban Meyer being named as a potential Jason Garrett replacement.

After the Cowboys lost for the fourth time in five games on Thursday night against the Chicago Bears, Garrett’s hot seat seems to be heating up more than ever, although Jerry Jones continues to claim the head coach’s job is safe for at least this season.

When taking into consideration that Dallas is technically still in first place at the moment when it comes to the NFC East, it’s easy to understand why Jones wants to keep Garrett around for now, but also this could quickly change in a few weeks.

Making coaching changes in the middle of a playoff run would only make a team like the Cowboys even more of a mess than they currently are, and for all Dallas fans know, they could easily find a way to win the division before going on to make a deep run come January.

From the perspective of the Eagles, fans always joke about how much they would love to see the Cowboys keep Garrett around since his inability to get this team to the Super Bowl despite all of the talent to work with is always enjoyable.

But if Dallas continues on this current path of destruction, and ends up firing Garrett down the road, there will be plenty of strong candidates lining up to become the next head coach.

As much as Philadelphia fans don’t want to hear it, Dallas with their historic franchise would be considered a dream job for most head coaches, both across the NFL and college football.

Nothing is set in stone over who some of the favorites to potentially replace Garrett would be, but as mentioned before with Meyer, this would be a nightmare for Eagles fans to have to worry about.

Even more concerning, Jane Slater from the NFL Network already reported shortly after Thursday’s game the potential in Meyer is already there for the Cowboys, meaning the Eagles and their fans should be on high alert if Garrett ends up losing his job.

One of the most popular debate topics always seems to be whether certain college coaches would find just as much success in the NFL, especially after seeing Nick Saban’s disastrous stint with the Miami Dolphins.

And while the same concerns can be made about Meyer if the interest were to be there from the Cowboys, his coaching resume alone speaks for itself.

By winning three national titles during his time at Florida and Ohio State, Meyer seems like the kind of head coach that would welcome an opportunity to join a team in the Cowboys with open arms.

Since leaving the Buckeyes, Meyer has seen his name thrown around to numerous openings in college football from time to time, but even he knows the chance to coach Dallas could arguably be viewed as a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Before any football fans jump to conclusion, keep in mind that just because the interest appears to be there from the Cowboys for Meyer doesn’t necessary mean anything will happen, but it sure could make things way more interesting in the NFC East.

If the Eagles thought the Cowboys have been difficult to compete at times over the last few years, just imagine what an effective coach in Meyer could add to this rivalry, that is assuming Dallas ends up moving on from Garrett at some point.
