It’s time to take a look at how the offense has been scoring in each quarter for the Philadelphia Eagles this season.

The offense of the Philadelphia Eagles has been a roller coaster of emotions in 2019 with only five games in which the team has scored over 30 points.

Coincidentally, the Eagles are 4-1 when the team does score more than 30 points, but unfortunately when Philadelphia scores 10 points or less, they are 0-3 on the season.

It’s no secret this Eagles’ offense has been ravaged by injuries and a lot of miscues on their part over the last few months, as one can only imagine how different the NFC East standings would be if it weren’t for these issues.

To get a better understanding of how things have been for Philadelphia’s offense this season, I thought it would be interesting look how much the team is scoring by each quarter this season.

First Quarter

According to the site TeamRankings.com, the Eagles rank 17th in the league by averaging 4.4 points in the first quarter.

At home, the Eagles are averaging 5.5 points per game, but only 3.3. points per game on the road.

In comparison to last season, Philadelphia averaged 3.2 points last season in the first quarter.

Second Quarter

Unfortunately, there will be a trend for the next two quarters shown in regards to the Eagles struggling to score points in these quarters at home.

TeamRankings.com has the Eagles ranked 11th with scoring in the second quarter by averaging 7.2 points (5.3 points at home and 9.3 points away).

In 2018, the team scored an average of 5.8 points in the second quarter, showing a little bit of progress.

First Half

Even with all their struggles, the Eagles are averaging more points on offense than last year.

During the 2018 season, Philadelphia averaged 9.2 points in the first half and this year the team is averaging 11.6, showing somewhat improvement.

The next stat is particularly frustrating stat for the Eagles, as the team owns the ball for 53.70 percent of the time in the first half, but unfortunately still struggled to put points on the board.

When the team is at Lincoln Financial Field, the Eagles have the ball 56.21 percent of the time in the first half, but recently Philadelphia in general has been struggling to put points at home.

In 2018, the Eagles held on to the football 52.08 percent in the first half.

Third Quarter

The Eagles are averaging 6.3 points in the third quarter this season and just like the second quarter, the team averages more points away than home.

While Philadelphia averages 5.2 points per game at home, the Eagles for whatever reason are finding more success on the road, averaging 7.5 points per game.

Philadelphia averaged six points a game last season in the third quarter, just in case some fans were curious.

Fourth Quarter

This is the second-worst scoring quarter for the Eagles this season, as the team averages 4.9 points in the final quarter of action.

Unlike the second or third quarters, the Eagles actually score more points at home than away in the fourth quarter.

While the team averages 5.7 points at home, the Eagles are averaging 4.2 points away from home in the fourth quarter this season.

Looking back at the 2018 season, the Eagles averaged 6.7 points in the fourth quarter.

Second Half

The Eagles possess the football for 52.46 percent of the second half this season, with Philadelphia hanging on to the football 55.69 percent at home compared to 49.23 percent away in the second half.

Last season, the Eagles had a similar number in the second half in regards to hanging on to the football (52.69 percent).

Philadelphia is fifth in the league with an overall time of possession, as the offense holds the ball for over 31:50 minutes a game. The average time of possession at home for the Eagles is 33:34 and away it is 30:07.

Last season, the Eagles averaged a time of possession of 31:45.

After taking all these statistics into consideration, the numbers show that the Eagles’ offense is not pushing the gas fast enough early on in games and the team also struggles to show up in the most critical quarter which the fourth.

To top it off, the stats also show Philadelphia’s offense has the football long enough, but unfortunately just can’t always find a way to take advantage by putting up the necessary points.
