Eagles no longer have to worry about long-shot scenario of Redskins winning NFC East
By Dan Parzych
The Washington Redskins are no longer a threat to the Philadelphia Eagles when it comes to winning the NFC East title, even if it was a long shot.
While the main focus surrounding the NFC East title in recent weeks has been on the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys, the Washington Redskins were technically still alive entering Week 14, as crazy as that is to believe.
In order for the Redskins to pull this off, the team would not only need to win each of their remaining four games, but also watch the Cowboys fail to win another game on top of the Eagles going 1-3, with the lone win coming Week 16 against Dallas.
From a realistic perspective, most football fans knew this would basically be impossible to happen, but also crazier things have taken place in the NFL over the years.
One can only imagine what the reactions from both the Eagles and Cowboys fan bases would have been like if this ended up happening to the Redskins since it’s safe to assume this would result in plenty of anger.
But since Washington came up short on Sunday at Lambeau Field after losing to the Green Bay Packers 20-15, at least Philadelphia and Dallas fans can feel a little at ease knowing their beloved teams will avoid what would have been an embarrassing scenario.
With the way things have been for the Eagles in recent weeks after losing three games in a row, the frustration surrounding the team would have reached new levels by the end of the month if Philadelphia found a way to lose the division to Washington.
Since the Redskins were officially eliminated from playoff contention on Sunday, the Eagles should feel a little less pressure heading into their Week 15 battle in Washington, right after they hopefully take care of business against the New York Giants on Monday.
Eagles fans would have been the first to say that a win by the Redskins over the Packers could resulted in the ultimate trap game if Washington were still alive, but at least this scenario is now irrelevant after Sunday.
Maybe next season once the Redskins make a few changes to their coaching staff, and feel a little more confident in Dwayne Haskins after the Ohio State product earned some surprise experience in 2019 as a rookie, Washington will be viewed as more of a threat to the Eagles.
For now, all the Redskins are to the Eagles are a team standing in their way of keeping things tight in the NFC East with the Cowboys, as this should be another fun battle within the NFC East next Sunday.
