1. Josh McDaniels, currently the offensive coordinator of the Patriots

There’s a desire in every man to prove that you can do it on your own. Josh McDaniels, offensive coordinator of the New England Patriots failed to do that once upon a time. McDaniels’ first and, at this point in his career, his only head-coaching stint came when he was given the opportunity to lead the Denver Broncos.

He had minimal success, and that’s putting things mildly. He won less than 40 percent of his games (11-17 in two seasons), and the games that he did win were a result of great defense. His offensive prowess had little to do with any of the success that he did have.

Still, these days, one of the best ways to find coaching talent is to find it on other coaching staffs, and the Patriots assistant coaching staff has been one of the breeding grounds for a while. Two years ago, McDaniels had an opportunity to take an open Indianapolis Colts job, and there isn’t an Eagles, Colts, or Pats fan that doesn’t know how that turned out.

Don’t look now, but McDaniels is back in the conversation for available coaching jobs. Will he finally step out of Bill Belichick‘s shadow? Keep in mind the fact that Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio is rumored to be a candidate for open GM jobs. This could be a package deal.
