Well, the move wasn’t a surprise, but the subsequent activity caused a bit of a stir. The Philadelphia Eagles officially placed wide receiver, Alshon Jeffery, on the team’s IR (injured reserve) on Thursday. That happened a little before lunchtime on the East Coast. Robert Davis has been promoted to the active roster.

Let’s not waste a ton of time. Here are three immediate reactions.

1. Robert Davis over Marken Michel? Who is this guy again?

Many shared the thought that the available roster spot created by Alshon Jeffery’s move to the IR would be given to Marken Michel, co-author of, arguably, the most exciting offensive play of the preseason. That’s not meant to disrespect Greg Ward or JJ Arcega-Whiteside, but 75-yard bombs are hard to come by.

As far as Davis goes, he was a sixth-round draft choice of the Washington Redskins in 2017. he played his college ball at Georgia State. He’s six-foot-three and provides a big target for Carson Wentz, but he doesn’t satisfy the need for speed.

2. Maybe Nelson Agholor’s playing in Week 15?

With the desperate need for wide receiver help, it seems as though Philly should probably trim space somewhere and add Michel too. Nelson Agholor didn’t participate in practice on Wednesday as he is still dealing with that knee issue, but maybe we can guess that he figures to play Sunday?

We’ll have to wait and see if the idea is feasible or if it picks up steam.

3. Philly adds another to the practice squad.

Philly also announced that they have signed Deontay Burnett, yet another receiver to the practice squad. he was a Second Team All-Pac-12 nod in 2017. He went undrafted and was signed by the Tennessee Titans in 2018. He’s spent time with both the New York Jets and the San Francisco 49ers. He has ten catches for 143 yards and no touchdowns on his NFL resume.
