Early on Thursday, a nod given to a great man and a Philadelphia Eagles star who never askes for any. Kudos are in order for Malcolm Jenkins.

There are honestly some very good people on this Philadelphia Eagles roster. Sure, we all may get upset with them from time to time because they miss a tackle or chirp too much on social media (whether publicly or anonymously). They may underperform at times on game days, but it’s hard to make an argument that questions their character. Throw Malcolm Jenkins in that category.

You see, knowing the game and loving the game are two different things. Loving the game makes you watch the game, and you might even get upset with your favorite players for screwing up. Knowing the game tells you that many people blame Malcolm Jenkins for things that aren’t his fault.

You see, many of the times you’ve blamed Jenkins for a mental error that wasn’t actually his error. You see, one of Philly’s captains on defense has earned his captain’s patch because he knows what he’s doing, and he elevates his teammates. Often, those ‘errors’ aren’t Jenkins’ errors but someone else’s, and what you’re seeing is a guy that tries to do everything. You can argue among yourselves about which teammates are being talked about.

What does Jenkins do? He never throws his teammates under the bus, and he never takes credit for what he’s done. That trait has even carried over into his personal life. Jenkins’ philanthropy has been well documented, but he never beats his own drum. Fortunately, he has ITI to beat it for him.

Kudos are in order for one of Philly’s best as he received the Eagles nomination for the Nationwide Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. Take a look.

The NFL will announce the 2019 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award at the NFL Honors ceremony on February 1st of 2020. This award recognizes excellence on and off the field. The winner sees $250,000 donated to United Way in his name and up to $250,000 donated to the winner’s charity of choice.

Former Eagles defensive end Chris Long won this same award a season ago. Recently, he took some time to reflect.

Here’s a quote from Mr. Jenkins:

"Winning the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award for me would be a huge honor and a way to acknowledge the work of everyone else who has allowed The Malcolm Jenkins Foundation to be what it is, and that’s every volunteer, every person that we’ve been able to engage with in the community, every partner, every sponsor, my wonderful board, who has been with us from the beginning, allowing us to operate in four different states."

Congratulations are definitely in order. Guys like Chris Long, Malcolm Jenkins, Carson Wentz, Doug Pederson, Harold Carmichael, who won this same award in 1980, and Troy Vincent (2002’s winner) make cheering for this team very easy.
