5 Philadelphia Eagles Doug Pederson’s regime should have stuck with
It’s one thing to miss on draft picks. It’s another entirely to just blatantly ship proven talent off. Here are five players from the recent Doug Pederson era who were given up on too early.
We’ve long known that the NFL Draft is a crapshoot. Just ask Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson, vice president/general manager Howie Roseman, or Joe Douglas, who screwed up a couple of drafts in his time here. There are no sure things, and sometimes, months’ worth of analysis turns into a huge mistake.
JaMarcus Russell and Ryan Leaf can bomb and be labeled busts. Terrell Davis and Tom Brady can be taken late and become Pro Football Hall of Fame inductees. The Eagles can draft Mike Mamula over Warren Sapp with a draft pick they got from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers no less.
Yep, nothing in the draft is a sure thing. That’s why teams must draft wisely, make proper decisions in free agency, and find the right mix of talent.
Once you have done that, it’s inexcusable, unless the money becomes an issue, to let key players walk. Sometimes the salary cap has come back to haunt Philly. Sometimes, players don’t want to stay, but here are five Eagles from the more recent Doug Pederson era who left the nest too early.
