5 Philadelphia Eagles Doug Pederson’s regime should have stuck with

2. Trey Burton, tight end, Chicago Bears, currently on their IR

What you’re thinking is obvious. Trey Burton was offered a deal and refused it. That may be true, but Philly’s success in 2017 was partially due to having three capable tight ends. Yes, Burton’s on the IR (which is probably your other argument), but there’s no guarantee that his 2019 campaign with the Eagles would have turned out the same way.

Since leaving Philly, Burton has produced 68 receptions for 653 yards and six touchdowns. Carson Wentz, or Nick Foles for that matter, could have benefited from having a guy who can actually create a little separation and make timely third-down catches.

34 of Burton’s receptions have moved the chains over the course of his 24 career games with the Chicago Bears. Yeah, Philly tried to make it work. They decided Burton’s asking price was too high, but they managed to find the money to sign Vinny Curry, and outside of his aberration versus the Giants, you can see how that turned out.
