Philadelphia Eagles dodged major bullet by not signing Josh Gordon
The Philadelphia Eagles dodged a major bullet by not signing Josh Gordon.
The need for help at wide receiver has resulted in every available prospect with a well-known resume’s name roll of the tongues of Philadelphia Eagles fans and the Philly media whenever their names were seen in trade talks or the waiver wire.
Rumors came and went, but each time that happened, Philly did nothing in the way of bringing the big-name guys in.
Howie Roseman, the Eagles’ vice president and general manager has taken a ton of criticism as a result, but in most cases, with the exception of Minkah Fitzpatrick (and some would throw Jadeveon Clowney or Jalen Ramsey in the same category), Roseman’s done a good job of weighing immediate need versus long-term plans without overspending or bringing someone in who would do more harm to the organization than good.
Josh Gordon was one of those guys much of the Eagles fan base wanted, but after he was conditionally reinstated and rejoined the New England Patriots on August 16th of 2019, he found his way onto the IR on October 23rd. He was waived from the injured reserve on October 31st as rumors about his work ethic also came into question.
The Seattle Seahawks claimed him off of waivers on November 1st, but after violating the NFL‘s policy on performance-enhancing drugs and substance abuse on December 16th, he’s now been suspended again. Philly dodged a major bullet here.
It’s unfortunate, and of course, everyone wants for Gordon to be okay, but seeing as how this is the third time he’s been suspended by the NFL, we all need to come to the realization that we’ve seen Gordon play in the NFL for a final time. That’s sad because this is one of those careers that could have been legendary.
