The Philadelphia Eagles are still in the race for the NFC East title, as the surprise duo of Miles Sanders and Boston Scott continues to work wonders in the backfield.

Due to Jordan Howard‘s shoulder injury turning out to be more serious than originally expected, the Philadelphia Eagles have been forced to rely on rookie Miles Sanders more than usual over the last month or so.

While the Eagles clearly expected the former Penn State star to see a heavy workload as a rookie, Philadelphia also felt that Sanders would benefit the most from him dealing with less pressure as a result of playing alongside Howard.

Since Howard’s return date is still up in the air, the Eagles will continue to heavily rely on Sanders being their top running back on offense, but also if Philadelphia were looking for a positive factor from the situation, all they need to do is look at Boston Scott.

Technically, the Eagles promoted Scott to the active roster back in October, but the former Louisiana Tech star has stepped up his game the most over the last two weeks when Philadelphia’s offense needed him the most.

One week after displaying a career game in a win over the New York Giants by finishing with 128 yards from scrimmage to go along with a touchdown, Scott came through again to help defeat the Washington Redskins, and helped take some of the extra workload off Sanders in the backfield.

Scott’s numbers (26 rushing yards on six carries and seven catches for 39 yards) were far from what Sanders (172 yards from scrimmage with two touchdowns) recorded in Washington, but from an overall perspective, this was exactly what the Eagles needed on offense.

To say Philadelphia has been one of the biggest victims of the injury bug in the wide receiver department would be a huge understatement, as the offense just hasn’t been able to catch a break this year, whether it involves Alshon Jeffery or DeSean Jackson.

The duo of Sanders and Scott isn’t going to single-handedly save the Eagles on offense during this final stretch to help put the team in better position to finish on top of the NFC East, but it’s certainly going to help in a big way.

Not to mention, since Sanders is technically the only running back guaranteed to return in 2020 due to being under contract, the surprise emergence of Scott has provided Philadelphia with a surprise opportunity to have a dynamic duo at the position for years to come.

A few recent games doesn’t necessarily guarantee this potential duo of Sanders and Scott is going to work wonders for the long run, but at least the last couple of weeks provide hope.

With running back being a position of need dating back to the 2018 season, here’s to hoping that Sanders and Scott continue to work well together over these final two weeks to not only help earn a trip to the playoffs, but provide more excitement for 2020 as well.
