Dak Prescott will get his deal and Philadelphia Eagles fans should rejoice
There’s no need to ponder this if you’re a Philadelphia Eagles fan. Dak Prescott will get his deal, and you should rejoice when he does.
It’s been easy to follow the comings and goings of Dak Prescott‘s deal, the Jason Garrett drama and all things that concern the Dallas Cowboys, even if you’re a Philadelphia Eagles fan. Why? Their owner, Jerry Jones, just doesn’t know when to step away from the microphone or the camera. In fact, he seeks them out.
He’s like an attention-seeking little girl who just started her first Instagram account. You have no idea how lucky you are to have Jeffrey Lurie if you’re an Eagles fan. Most of us forget what Lurie’s voice sounds like from time, but with Jones, you get all of the press clippings that you can handle.
All season, we’ve been bombarded with the news of the first-ever business trip to Cabo, San Lucas, when Jason Garrett may or may not be fired, and an always-slow-to-the-party Cowboys fan base that took longer than the average NFL fan to learn that Dallas is better when they play teams who are struggling.
In less than two months, the NFL season will be over, and the overly-annoying Jones will be on television every day talking about Prescott’s extension. if one hasn’t been hammered out already Hopefully, the deal will get done prior to that, when Dallas’ season ends, and we’ll all, at least, be able to ignore some of that for more interesting news, like the Super Bowl and things of that nature.
By now, you’ve probably come to the conclusion that Prescott will get his extension. It’s not a matter of if. It’s a matter of when and how much that extension will cost the Cowboys’ owner. That ought to make you smile if you’re an Eagles fan. Why? It helps ensure the long-term apathy of the Dallas Cowboys. The only thing that would make this better is if they’d give Jason Garrett an extension too.
Prescott is a mediocre quarterback who can be effective if you surround him with a ton of help, but he’s also now, all of a sudden, starting to show some wear and tear, and seeing as how Dallas likes to employ a physical playing style with him, those injuries you’re seeing now will be more frequent going forward.
Now, using the word ‘mediocre’ in that description will make most Cowboys fans take issue. Keep in mind, they’re basically the football version of Beyonce’s ‘BeyHive’, but put down the pom-poms for a second if you love that so-called America’s Team. When the NFL Network released its’ Top 100 Players of 2019, a list voted on by players, Prescott’s peers didn’t name him among the best players in the game. A few months later, the fans voted on the Pro Bowl roster.
Prescott was left off of that too.
The Cowboys handed a six-year extension worth $90 million ($50 million of that is guaranteed) to an unreliable Ezekiel Elliott, who, thanks to his physical style of play will start to taper off, just like Prescott. Dallas may get a couple of decent years out of both of them, but it’s the latter stages of both of these deals where you’ll see much of the evidence that signing both Prescott and Eliott longterm was boneheaded. It will also prevent them from spending money on other guys.
Put a smile on those faces Eagles fans. Jerry Jones will be around for a while. Prescott will get his deal, and you should all be ecstatic. The long term mediocrity of the Cowboys is certain.
